After a standout debut with her album NORMAL in 2024, Mathilde Anne is becoming an incredibly compelling artist to watch, as both a writer and vocalist. Her music blends ethereal production with evocative, deeply personal songwriting, exploring themes of young adulthood, womanhood, love, loss, and living with neurodivergence.

The title track Normal exemplifies this - a melancholic, lullaby-like piece that captures the inner dialogue of trying to “be normal.” Offering insight into Mathilde’s lived experience with neurodivergence, the song is intimate and unflinchingly honest, its delicate composition drawing subtle comparisons to Lorde’s Writer in the Dark.

Its soft, music box-inspired instrumentation and introspective tone give the sense of overhearing a young mind drifting into sleep, with the album’s closing reprise bringing a full-circle sense of quiet closure. Mathilde shares:

“I am an artist with a disability, not a disabled artist. I think a lot of the time in society, even though we mean well, we kind of get those paths crossed and it’s really important to remember that we’re just people that love making music, and we’re not defined by our disability”.

Crime Scene Cadillac on the other hand, is just fun. The track captures the pull of self‑destruction - knowing something is bad for you but choosing it anyway. Driven by heavy drums, and layered vocals, there’s a knowing sense of doom as everything crashes down around you. It’s not reckless ignorance, but conscious indulgence, like pressing the accelerator even as you see the crash coming. It’s an angst‑fuelled glimpse into coming of age, showcasing Mathilde’s range as both a writer and performer.

In 2024 at just 21-years-old she also was a finalist for the Australian Women in Music Award, City of Gold Coast Emerging Artist Award, and just last year won one of The Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition’s 2025 Emerging Global Songwriter Awards.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Billie Eilish, Patrick Watson, Lorde and Lizzy McAlpine, Mathilde’s introspective writing and intimate live performances continue to resonate with audiences in Australia and beyond. From bookshops to cafés and more venues across Australia and Europe, her shows prioritise connection, fostering a strong sense of community with listeners. As she explains:

“Something I really hope that people take away from me as an artist is just that, it’s really important to kind of use your voice and your music to create community. I hope that my music can kind of serve that for other people, and we can kind of use our voices collectively to talk about what is really important to us”.

Mathilde has scored slots at festivals like Port Fairy Folk Festival and Mordi Fest, and has shared stages with homegrown favourites such as Cub Sport, Telenova and Teenage Dads, as well as supporting fellow Ones To Watch alumni Lotte Gallagher.

With the highly anticipated release of her upcoming EP, Cigarettes and Anxious Sex, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting new chapter for Mathilde Anne.
